Scout Camp '09
A couple weeks ago the boys spent a week up at Pine Flat Lake. Scoutmaster Greg Holt purchased all the food based on menus prepared by the boys and the food was tip notch! There were over 35 merit badges earned. They included; boating, water sports, canoeing, camping, cooking, first aid, and hiking. The trip also included two power boats, tubing, skiing, and wakeboarding, and a canoeing adventure down the kings river.
Independence Day!!!
Today we remembered our Country's Independence Day in part by joining together for breakfast, saluting the flag, and listening to words which might remind us of the significance of this day.
A brief speech was given today, giving an account of some of the experiences of the Forefathers that signed the Declaration of Independence. A note was made on the many various backgrounds of the signers of the Declaration. Many of them were monetarily wealthy, and almost all of them were quite educated. These people, who might be considered as people who lived comfortably, were willing to sacrifice everything they had, even their own life, to ensure the freedom and liberty of the people of the New World. It was also noted that many of these people were persecuted and killed for signing that Declaration. The speech was completed with a quote from Wilford Woodruff who explained that the signers of the Declaration of Independence were good men, Inspired of God, to open the doors for the fullness of the Gospel to enter the world.
Breakfast was delicious (thanks to everyone that helped!), fun company and it was nice to mingle among everyone in the Ward. Afterwards the kids were able to play games.... Water balloons played a part of course! Perfect remedy for a hot day! Thanks to all who participated and made this activity a success!!
